HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE RUSSELL

 

Today we are wishing Jane Russell a very happy birthday on what would have been her 98th birthday.  Russell was an American film actress and one of Hollywood’s leading sex symbols in the 1940s and 1950s.  She had a career in Hollywood spanning 4 decades and some of her biggest hits included: “The Outlaw,” “The Tall Men,” “Underwater!” and “The Las Vegas Story.”


In a publicity still for her first motion picture and box office hit “The Outlaw.”  This provocative shot saw her catapulted into stardom.

Of course, undoubtably, her biggest screen success came with the release of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” alongside Marilyn in 1953.  Monroe and Russell got along famously and throughout the years, right up until Janes death in 2011, she never had a cruel or unkind word to say about her co-star.

“I didn’t experience any of the lateness or unprofessionalism you hear about, that came way later. She worked very hard and always knew her lines and was absolutely determined to get ahead.” Russell remembers, “we got along very well and when I found out she was a little nervous about going out on the set, I’d stop by her dressing room and you know, say ‘come on Blondel, it’s time to go! We’re due…’ and she’d say ‘oh! alright Jane’ and we’d trot on the set together.”


Happy Birthday Jane Russell, you are forever missed.

MARILYN’S BIRTHDAY FLOWERS

Thank you to everyone who donated money for flowers for Marilyn’s birthday! Our card, placed on the floral spray at Marilyn’s crypt, is below. Over $1,000.00 was donated this year! As was the case in 2018, Marilyn Remembered will donate remaining funds to a charitable cause. In 2018, we donated proceeds to Hollygrove, Marilyn’s childhood orphanage. Thank you again for remembering Marilyn on her 93rd birthday. ❤️

“MARILYN’S HOLLYWOOD” TOUR

“Marilyn Remembered’s” very own Elisa Jordan, who also runs “LA Woman Tours” recently spoke about her fantastic “Marilyn’s Hollywood Tour” which took place on June 2nd, the day after Marilyn’s 93rd birthday:

“For Marilyn’s Birthday, I took some really nice folks out for a tour, including some Marilyn Remembered members (hi guys!) We stopped by the cemetery to see all Marilyn’s flowers and had cupcakes for her “birthday cake.” We had the cupcakes in the old Chasen’s building, a corner of which is preserved and still looks like the famed restaurant where Marilyn frequently dined. The building is now Bristol Farms but when you’re in the preserved Chasen’s section you can sit in a booth and pretend you’re part of Old Hollywood.”

“Big Birthday For Marilyn Monroe she would be 93 today. Of the many projects we have worked on honoring Milton & Marilyn’s collaboration we have done a first. With the participation of master printer, Martin Axon the Archives is going to release our first platinum print. Each one is different because it is a one of a kind process that varies based on how Martin applies the emulsion and the exposure & the temperature of the developer. We will only offer 14 of each image. This is our first one of a classic B-8 that first appeared in color on the cover of Life magazine in 1965! A process that is so rare and specialized that even Milton did not pursue it!

So that said Happy Birthday Marilyn and yo dad we did it! Love you both:)))”

Sam Shaw, another of Marilyn’s photographers official estate posted this on their Facebook account:

“Once upon a time in Hollywood…a little known actress named Marilyn Monroe drove photographer Sam Shaw to and from the set of the film Viva Zapata because Sam didn’t have a driver’s license. It was 1951 and the two independent spirits became instant and life-long friends. They were both New Yorkers. They both loved Goya. They both worked in Hollywood for many years. They both left Hollywood in pursuit of complete artistic freedom. Marilyn Monroe was born 93 years ago today and we celebrate her.

“She represented freedom as few other women have. She said of herself that she was a sex symbol. That is true. It’s the freest symbol there is. It’s the symbol of life freeing itself from the tyranny of fear. Men are in terror of women’s sexuality, it has always been so. Anytime a woman behaves as freely as Marilyn Monroe, one part of us loves it, the other hates and fears it.” – Sam Shaw”
